The Pre-Pregnancy Ovulation Calendar

An ovulation calendar is not one of the manliest topics out there. So I’ll try to through in a football reference here and there to make sure the testosterone level stays up.

While I can make the argument that knowing how fertile your wife is on any given day is her job to know – it will impress her that you know this information too and it’s always good to earn those extra brownie points.

Surprisingly enough the math here isn’t as complicated as you may think. You need to know a couple of pieces of information in order to know when your wife is most fertile.

  • The day her last menstrual period started
  • How long her cycle is – the number of days between her menstrual cycle

The first one should be fairly easy because it interfered with your plans or you were asked to run to the store to buy tampons. The second one can be a little tricky especially if she isn’t consistent from one month to the next. Unless you really know your wife’s body you may have to ask her about this one.

So now that you have that information lets complete the ovulation calendar. The average length of menstrual cycle is 28 days – this is from the time her period first starts until the next time is starts. We’ll use this as a starting point and adjust based on your wife’s individual schedule. From the day she first starts her period count 11 days – this is the first day when she starts to become fertile. Her fertility will peak on the 13th day – so you have a 3 day window of fertility.

If her cycle is shorter or longer simply adjust the start point by the number of days. If her cycle is 26 days she is most fertile between days 9 and 11, if it is 30 days she is most fertile between days 13 and 15.

Here’s an example to help. Let’s say she started her period on February 7th (Super Bowl Sunday for 2010) and has a 28 day menstrual cycle – she will be most fertile from the 17th – 19th. If you want, create an ovulation calendar and circle the dates so that you remember when it is you need to focus your energy.

3 whole days! That’s it – you thought that getting her pregnant was going to mean sex all the time for the whole month. Well who says it doesn’t have to be? Just because she is really only fertile those three days doesn’t mean that there isn’t a chance she could get pregnant the other 25 – you might as well give it a try! I mean the only way to score a touchdown is by giving the receiver a chance to catch the ball.
